Biography
Dr. Megan Chaney enthusiastically joined UMass Global team in Fall 2024 as an Associate Professor of Education in the Doctoral Program of Organizational Leadership and its Educational Leadership programs including the Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Administration (MAELA)/Preliminary Administrative Services Credential (PASC) and the Clear Administrative Services Credential (CASC) programs.
Dr. Chaney’s teaching experiences serving children with mild/moderate disabilities in self-contained, co-teaching inclusive, and general education environments were rewarding and formative. Administrative leadership as a comprehensive school site principal and vice principal brought immense fulfillment in service to students, families, and communities leading initiatives to increase student learning, promote social-emotional growth, directly address inequities, and increase engagement in the educational process. Immeasurable professional meaning was found in the process of leading local school communities through the process of envisioning and implementing cohesive instructional, co-curricular, and extra-curricular initiatives to promote maximum growth and development of ALL students.
Within institutions of higher education, Dr. Chaney has served in many administrative, instructional, consulting, service, and coaching capacities. Dr. Chaney had the privilege to teach and develop curriculum extensively across the special education and general education teacher preparation curriculum sequences. Dr. Chaney has actively supported administrative services candidate with performance assessment and coursework. Dr. Chaney’s external consulting has focused on assessment and curricular alignment. Service as a partner with local educational agencies and external organizations are within Dr. Chaney’s expertise.
Dr. Chaney earned a Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) with an emphasis in College Teaching and Learning and a Master of Arts Degree in Education: Special Education. Dr. Chaney’s scholarly research agenda has focused on special education teacher dispositions and P-12 school administrator capacity in special education to increase efficacy, equity, and retention it the profession. Dr. Chaney holds an active and deep commitment to the field of education in pursuit of an inclusive and equitable society.
