UMass Global Earns Gold Ranking as “Military Friendly” University
IRVINE, Calif. (Apr. 5, 2024) - University of Massachusetts Global (UMass Global) traces its origins to serving military students — the university began as an outreach program for military personnel serving at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro in Orange County, California. That commitment to military students at UMass Global continues and has been recognized with the recent receipt of a “Gold” ranking as a 2024-2025 Military Friendly® School from VIQTORY, an organization that connects the military community with opportunities in the civilian sphere.
When compiling their yearly rankings, VIQTORY (a service-disabled, veteran-owned small business) evaluates data from what the firm calls the “three Ps”: public data sources, proprietary data from a Military Friendly® Schools survey, and personal data from surveys of military members themselves. For their rankings, VIQTORY analyzes data from over 8,800 schools across the country.
For its “Gold” ranking, UMass Global was deemed to have exceeded VIQTORY’s standards in all categories. These include “culture and commitment,” “financial aid and assistance,” “graduation and career,” and “military student support and retention.”
According to VIQTORY, Military Friendly® Schools strive towards and succeed in the areas that matter most in helping veterans make the transition from the military to school and, ultimately, satisfying careers in the civilian world.
UMass Global has been serving military students since those first days with Marines at Air Station El Toro, starting in 1958. During the 2023-24 academic year, UMass Global had 1,449 military-affiliated students in our undergraduate and graduate programs. Over 10% of our students are military affiliated.
