UMass Global recognizes International Holocaust Remembrance Day
IRVINE, Calif. (Jan. 12, 2023) – UMass Global is mindful of the need to ensure that the victims of historic atrocities are never forgotten. The university accordingly joins institutions around the world in asking students, faculty, and staff to be aware of January 27’s significance as International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
The date – January 27 – recalls the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp during the final year of World War II, according to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
“On this annual day of remembrance and commemoration, we honor the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and millions of other victims of Nazism and to develop programs to help prevent future genocides,” the museum writes.
The Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI) recommends readers learn more from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Readers living in Southern California may be interested in visiting Holocaust Museum LA is for a ceremony focused on Italian victims of the Holocaust.
