Course Description

Effective communication is a critical life skill, both personally and professionally. It is more than just an exchange of ideas and information. Communicating effectively involves the ability to clearly convey a message, be an effective listener and identify the underlying emotions and intentions behind the information.

The Fundamentals of Communication Certificate includes four competencies

  1. Effective Communication
  2. Emotional Intelligence
  3. Conflict Resolution
  4. Giving and Receiving Effective Feedback

Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Communication Certificate may qualify as academic credit or serve as a substitute for specific courses in the UMass Global undergraduate or graduate degree programs, offering you significant time and cost savings. 

Undergraduate Credits

  •  Equivalent Undergraduate Course (Credit Hour): COMU 101 Public Speaking I - 3 credits
  • Equivalent Undergraduate Competency (CBE) for the Bachelor’s in Business Administration (BBA): COMC 101 Oral Communications - 3 credits

Graduate Credits

  • Equivalent Graduate Course (Credit Hour): HRCU 630 Conflict and Negotiation - 3 credits
  • Equivalent Graduate Competency (CBE) for the Master’s in Organizational Leadership (MAOL): HRCC 630 Conflict and Negotiation - 3 credits
